12 - Conductors and cables

Chapter 12 of the Standard provides prescriptions about conductors and cables.

The Manufacturer shall select conductors so as to be suitable for the operating conditions and external influences.

Table 5 reports the minimal cross-sectional area of conductors.

The rating of cables depends on various factors such as insulation material (PVC or EPR) the number of conductors in a cable, design (sheathing), installation methods, grouping, and ambient temperature.

The Manufacturer shall install conductor cables, conductor busbars and collector ring assemblies in such a way that, during normal access to the machine, main protection is achieved by applying one of the following protection measures:

– protection by partial insulation of live parts, or where this is not practicable;

– protection by enclosures or barriers of at least IP2X or IPXXB.
